Interiors Focus: Industrial Chic

There’s something very manly about industrial-esque decor, isn’t there? With its tough-looking lines, finishes and materials, it wouldn’t look out of place in a battered old warehouse, or a disused mill.

In the home, then, you’d think it wouldn’t work. But oddly, such pieces – harsh industrial spot lights, cage-like shelving units, and all manner of pieces made from old piping – add a unique touch to a chic city apartment, or even a traditional cottage, when paired with old furniture for a ‘transitional look’.

We’ve searched Pinterest to find our favourite industrial pieces; they may not be conventional, but they’re certainly interesting. Do you agree?

How about these bird cage-inspired lights? We reckon these would look great hanging over a huge rustic-looking dining table, or maybe even as the focal point in a small bathroom. Or how about having them hanging over matching bedside cabinets in the bedroom for a sharp look?

These simple shelves look good too, and we reckon they’d look even better when paired with a more traditional item – like a Chesterfield sofa, perhaps. Do you think this would work too?

We like how these shelves are both functional – with plenty of space to store living room odds and ends (those old wires for the TV, say) – and attractive.  The great thing about them is we think they’d slot in just about any room, whether modern or classic.

We love how old piping has been used in both images here (below and above) to create a striking  shelving display. In the bathroom, pretty products are added to add a touch of femininity, while in the image below piping is used to great effect to store old books.
