A leather Chesterfield is the one everybody pictures. The deep-buttoned back, the rolled arms, the studs along the front: it was first made in leather in the 1700s and that is still how it looks right. A sealed hide wipes clean after the dog, a waxy pull-up softens and lightens where you sit, and all of them warm to the room rather than staying cold.

Sealed and everyday
Florence, Dune, Cracked Wax. A protective top coat, so spills sit on the surface and scratches don’t show. Florence is smooth and solid-coloured, from black Chesterfield sofas in Florence Black to soft Pebble and Silver Grey; Dune has a distressed look in nine shades; Cracked Wax lightens where it stretches. Distressed and full of character
Antique, Old English, Saloon, Vintage, Tempesta. The classic Chesterfield look, from brown Chesterfield sofas in Antique Dark Brown and Old English Saddle to tan Chesterfield sofas in Old English Tan and Vintage Cognac. Antique leathers are rubbed off by hand for a two-tone finish, and Old English is a waxy pull-up that crackles and darkens with use.
Aniline and natural
Legacy, Austen, Vesuvio. The softest hides, dyed right through with nothing on the surface, so every mark and scar shows, and that’s the point. Vesuvio is a Grade A fully aniline leather in fifteen deep colours; Legacy and Austen are buttery pull-ups. Beautiful in a quiet room, but not our first suggestion if there’s a dog.

Maintenance
Keeping Your Leather Beautiful

Vaccum gently
Dust and wipe with a soft, dry cloth once a week, and on sealed leathers a damp cloth wrung nearly dry deals with most marks.

Blot spills quickly
Blot spills straight away, with a dry cloth, and no detergents, polishes, waxes or solvents, as they strip the finish.

Avoid direct sunlight
Keep it away from heat and sun, not beside a radiator or fire, and out of strong sunlight, which fades aniline and semi-aniline hides in time.

Leather Conditioning
Feed it now and then, with a leather conditioner two or three times a year to keep it supple, and our cleaning kits are matched to your leather.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a leather Chesterfield sofa a good idea with children and pets?
Yes, if you choose a sealed leather. Florence, Dune and Cracked Wax shrug off scratches and wipe clean, leather springs back after someone has lain on it, and it doesn’t hold smells the way fabric does. We’d steer you away from Vesuvio if there’s a dog in the house.
Leather or velvet, which should we choose?
Leather wipes clean and looks better with age. A velvet Chesterfield sofa is warmer to sit on in winter, comes in more colours and starts at a lower price. A leather sofa with a velvet chair works because the buttoning and studs match across both pieces.
What size leather Chesterfield do I need?
Consider how the room will be used and measure doorways, hallways and stairs too, since a sofa has to get in first. Choose a size that suits the space, from a club chair or two-seater to a corner Chesterfield sofa, and see our sofa measuring guide for help.
Can I customise the size, studs and legs?
Yes. Most models come in up to five sizes, and because everything is made to order our bespoke service can go further, whether that’s a three-seater trimmed by 15cm or a deeper seat. Choose Bronze Renaissance, Chrome or Gun Metal studs, or leather piping, and mahogany, oak, black or white legs.
How long will delivery take?
Made to order in Lancashire and delivered in 6-8 weeks, by two people, to the room you want it in. If you can’t wait, our In Stock pieces leave the workshop in 7-10 working days instead, and reach you a good deal sooner.
Why does a handmade leather Chesterfield cost more than a high-street one?
It’s what’s underneath and what’s on top. A solid beech frame, a sprung seat and hand-set buttons take time and skill, and a full hide costs more than a bonded leather. It’s why the frame is guaranteed for 25 years and why you’ll only buy one.
