Find Your PerfectVelvet Chesterfield

A Chesterfield in velvet is the version most families end up living on. It keeps everything that makes a Chesterfield a Chesterfield (the deep-buttoned back, the rolled arms, the studs along the front) and swaps the leather for something softer, warmer and more forgiving of a Tuesday evening with everyone piled on. Every velvet Chesterfield sofa we sell is made in the UK in our own workshop, as it has been since we started as a family business in 2007. Choose a model below, pick from nearly fifty velvets and twelve sizes, and make it yours.

Why Velvet Works So Well

Why Choose a Velvet Chesterfield Sofa

The same Chesterfield underneath, a different sofa to live with.

Softer, warmer, more forgiving

Velvet turns a study piece into a family one. Warmer to sit on in winter, softer under a napping child, and easier on the odd crumb.

Colour that moves with the light

The pile catches the light across the curves and buttoning, so a Forest Green or Sapphire shifts subtly as you move around the room.

The same build underneath

A solid beech hardwood frame, a sprung seat and around 200 buttons pressed in by hand. It’s why the frame carries a 25-year guarantee, velvet or not.

Traditional shape, modern feel

Where leather says “study”, velvet in Steel Grey is as happy in an open plan kitchen diner as a Victorian front room. A modern Chesterfield sofa without losing the shape.

Find Your Finish

Choose the Right Velvet

Amalfi Velvet

Amalfi Velvet

A smooth, matt pile in 24 colours, from grey Chesterfield sofas in Steel Grey and Cobblestone to blue Chesterfield sofas in Sapphire and Dark Blue. Forest Green, Highland Green, Pink, Peacock and Amethyst add bolder options.

Vintage Velvet

Vintage Velvet

Soft, lived-in colour A denser pile with a subtly mottled, chalky finish, so Moss, Ocean, Aubergine, Flint and Ivory look gently lived-in from day one. That finish hides the odd pressure mark and the easy-clean coating buys you time with spills.

Omega Velvet

Omega Velvet

The deepest colour Linwood’s Italian-woven velvet in Midnight, Hunter Green, Mulberry, Cognac and Turmeric. Stain-resistant, inherently flame-retardant and woven with 28% recycled content.

Maintenance

Keeping Your Velvet Beautiful

1

Vacuum gently

Once a week, with the soft brush attachment, working with the pile, before dust and crumbs settle.

2

Blot spills quickly

A clean, dry cloth, straight away. Blot, don’t rub, and leave household cleaners and solvents in the cupboard.

3

Brush the pile

Pressure marks where people sit are normal, the pile leans and catches the light differently. Your hand or a soft clothes brush brings it back.

4

Avoid direct sunlight

Strong sunlight fades any fabric in time. Turn and plump loose seat cushions every few weeks while you’re at it.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a velvet Chesterfield sofa a good idea with children and pets?

Honestly, yes, if you pick the right velvet. Vintage Velvet’s easy-clean finish and Omega’s stain resistance give you a head start on juice and muddy paws, Amalfi is our hardest-wearing at 60,000 rubs and velvet is a cut pile with no loops for claws to snag.

Is velvet easy to clean?

Yes, velvet is relatively simple to maintain with regular care. Vacuum it weekly to remove dust and loose debris, and blot spills quickly before they settle. A gentle brush of the pile now and then will help keep the fabric looking fresh and smooth.

Velvet or leather, which should we choose?

Velvet is warmer in winter, comes in far more colours and starts at a lower price. A leather Chesterfield sofa wipes clean and ages into a patina; our leather buying guide explains the types. Plenty of families settle it with a velvet sofa and a leather chair; the shared buttoning and studs mean they match.

Can I customise the size, studs and legs?

Yes. Most models come in up to five sizes, and because everything is made to order our bespoke service can go further: a three-seater trimmed by 15cm, a deeper seat. Choose Bronze Renaissance, Chrome or Gun Metal studs, or fabric piping for a softer look, and mahogany, oak, black or white legs.

How long will delivery take and Can I order samples before choosing?

Made to order in Lancashire and delivered in 6-8 weeks, by two people, to the room you want it in. If you can’t wait, our In Stock pieces leave the workshop in 7-10 working days. Yes, five free swatches, no obligation. Compare them in your own light before you decide anything.

Why does a handmade velvet Chesterfield cost more than a high-street one?

It’s what’s underneath,  a solid beech frame, a sprung seat and buttons and studs set by hand take time and skill; a foam seat on a lighter frame doesn’t. It’s also why we guarantee the frame for 25 years and why you’ll only buy one. Anything else is on our full FAQ page.
