5 Simple Ways to Style Your Living Room in 2019

2019 is the year of accessible high-end interior design style. Right from the start we’ve seen bold colours and structural accents take centre stage and we can’t wait to see how some of the most luxurious trends will translate into affordable homeware we can all enjoy.

Here are our top five, simple ways to style your living room this year, taking advice from some of the world’s best designers and popping them into our own homes. Style can be simple!

  1. Tidy Up that Eclectic Clutter

If 2015 though to 2018 taught us anything, it was that for those few years, ‘more’ was definitely in. Now, in the sustainable age of shopping local for our designers as well as our food, less has definitely become more.

Calm your living space down with fewer picture frames and avoid clashing prints and patterns to create a streamlined, zen feel. Colour accents are great, but try to use just one or two rather than heading into a technicolour dreamland.

2. Bring in the Nightwatch Green

In 2019, no colour is cooler than Nightwatch Green. Darker and moodier than hunter or racing green and far more contemporary than pistachio, this colour will transform your room.

Use either side of your chimney column for a dramatic look, or add statement Nightwatch Green ornaments to lift a tonal space. Our Osborne Wing Chair in House Antique Green would also set this look off perfectly.

3. Speaking of Green… Add More Plants

If you thought you’d brought enough plants into your living room in 2018, you were wrong. 2019 is the year when the outside truly comes indoors, bringing nature and all its green, earthly goodness to your home.

Fashionable plants this year continue to be the ever delicious Monstera Deliciosa, but more structural plants like dragon ferns and banana plants are coming into their own, too. And don’t forget the ’70s favourite, yucca, are big news for their sharp leaves and hard-to-kill attitude.

4. Natural Materials

This year is the year when plastic, perspex and laminate will finally hit the design trope dustbin. In an age of increasing concern for environmental causes, the desire for natural, Earth-friendly materials has never been stronger.

Choose naturally finished wood, woven textiles, stone, geodes and leather to bring yourself closer to nature, in a mixture of classic and contemporary styles in both your decor and your furniture. Take a look at our large range of leather chesterfield sofas to inspire you.

5. Utilise Primary Colours and Giant Art

Art by by Steve Johnson

This year, Scandi minimalism will be taking a back seat and in its place, mid-century minimalism and maxi-art will be bringing life to dated, sterile living rooms.

This also means that jewel colours are slowly being replaced, too, but don’t worry, if you love a pop of colour, deep tones inspired by the primary colour wheel are in, in, in. Think about edgy architectural drama of the art galleries of the ’90s and bring colour in via oversized paintings and prints and statement sculptural pieces.

If you’re feeling energised and ready for a change in your living room, take a look at our latest designs and start plan your home’s new look today. Why wait?
