Mother’s Day Make: Gentle Oat and Honey Face Mask

Mother’s Day is just a couple of days away, which is why we’ve teamed up with Kilner – makers of those recognisable glass storage jars – to bring you a fun how-to for a homemade face mask. We chose Kilner, too, as we’re in the business of making beautiful products from scratch – something the brand encourages customers to do, before preserving them in air tight jars.

Treat your mum/step mum/mother-in-law/carer/grandma (delete as appropriate) to a wonderfully natural product you can whip up at home in mere minutes. The best thing about this recipe is you probably don’t even need to head to the supermarket to pick up the ingredients – most of us have eggs, honey and oats at home.

Mother's Day Treat

Anti-ageing

This is a great mask for healthy, glowing skin. Honey can do wonders for the face – and that’s the reason you’ll find it in many skin care products. It acts as a great anti-agent and moisturiser, and it’s rich in natural antioxidants with anti-microbial products. The sweet, runny breakfast favourite can also help protect the skin from harmful UV rays, as well as keeping skin hydrated, supple and fresh. Give someone special the gift of beautifully glowing skin this Mother’s Day with this handmade treat.

So, what do you need?

Made with Love face mask

Ingredients (makes enough for 2 masks)

One tablespoon honey

One egg yolk

Four tablespoon of fine oatmeal

A Kilner jar

Let’s get started then!

Method

* Begin by mixing your honey and egg yolk in a small bowl

* Stir the mixture enough to ensure the oats make a soft paste

* Decant your face mask into the Kilner jar, closing it tightly and popping it in the fridge until Mother’s Day.

* For a final flourish, why not tie a stretch of lace, or a brightly coloured ribbon around your Kilner jar, too? You could also add a rustic-looking cardboard gift tag, or pretty sticky label, like we have.

And here’s the result! If this looks a little runny for your liking, simply add more oats, smooth on your face and enjoy!

Application

Simply smooth onto clean, dry skin. Leave the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes, before rinsing the face with lukewarm water. Finish by patting dry with a towel. Et voila, soft, super smooth skin!

Don’t fancy making this face mask? Why not try the homemade body scrub, as featured on the Kilner site.
