2014: Spring Interior and Design Trends

Wow, how fast did 2013 go?! Have you made any resolutions for the year ahead?

While last year’s trends, including animal motifs and tartan, may not be quite so prominent for 2014, the good news is there’s a whole lot of new interiors inspiration coming your way. And we’ve rounded up our top three for your viewing pleasure…

A. Turquoise

Brave enough to paint your living room turquoise? Top interiors sites and interior designers tell us the striking colour’s going to be a big hit for 2014 and beyond. But if you’re not keen on going all-out turquoise, why not instead try a splash of the cool blue shade on cushion covers or in curtains. That way, if you change your mind later, your living room can always be restored to its former glory with a few simple tweaks here and there.

B. Corduroy

We’ve added this to our top three because of the true shock factor behind this interiors trend. The last time we saw (or wore) cord was during our university days – and that was some time ago. While corduroy may not have looked great back then, when trousers made from the fabric came in all manner of colours (think mustard and terracotta), it’s certainly had a style update since. Check out this corduroy Chesterfield-inspired table (below) and marvel at how well it slots into this contemporary home. Have you been converted to corduroy? What are your thoughts on this once long-forgotten trend?

C. Patterned splash backs

Who ever said your kitchen had to be solely functional, and therefore dull in appearance? Make 2014 the year you add a splash (back) of colour to your cooking space with colourful wall tiles. Discover ornate tiles with Turkish designs, or Moroccan-themed patterns. Now, simply make your splash backs the star of the show in the kitchen, complementing the space with industrial-style mental pendant lights and wooden floorboards for a chic yet understated look.

Which is your favourite of these three interiors trends for 2014? And will you be trying anything new this year? What’s your favourite shade for the home? And would you ever be brave enough to opt for corduroy accessories?
